ABSTRACT<\/span>
\n<\/strong>The pandemic challenged the scientific community and governments around the world, who were looking for real-time answers but lacked the data or evidence to guide decision-making. This inevitably led to diverse and fragmented policies and responses. In particular, in terms of tracking and responding to epidemics, the COVID-19 has increased the demand for access to open data, i.e., freely accessible and available in a standardized machine-readable format and under a license that allows it to be re-used and reshared. This demand has been driven by several needs: taking informed policy actions quickly, improving communication on the current state of play, carrying out scientific analysis of a dynamic threat, understanding its social and economic impact, and enabling civil society oversight and reporting. In general, in an epidemiological context, open data are crucial for (i) conducting real-time situational analysis, implementing predictive models that can provide effective and timely responses for the effective containment of a disease; (ii) estimating key epidemiological parameters, such as incubation period, reproduction numbers, etc.; (iii) ensuring community trust in the government through increased transparency and better communication; and (iv) countering misinformation. However, for Real-World data to play a key role in the epidemiological understanding of the origins and transmission dynamics of emerging infectious diseases, it will be critical to address issues around data sharing, sustainability and quality. From this need, we created a platform to follow the “hot health topics” (i.e., Mpox, West-Nile, Flu, Hepatitis of unknown origin in children, and recently Bird flu) of the last years both at the European and Italian level. The idea is to have a reference point for simple users, researchers, and professionals in the field, supporting them in their main purpose: to do research, on reliable and above all machine-readable data, and not to waste time searching the web for information on X site. For each health topic, the user is referred to the national open data portal (in Italy https:\/\/dati.gov.it\/, and in Europe https:\/\/dati.gov.it\/) and is provided with a brief description of the dataset, allowing the data to be downloaded, “raw” visualization of the data in tabular form, and the ability to graph them based on the fields chosen by the user.
